Francine Vis and Christian Westergaard are the winners of the 1st Copenhagen International Lied Duo Competition 2015. An international jury headed by german baritone, professor Andreas Schmidt, the austrian accompanist professor Helmut Deutsch and swedish pianist, professor Niklas Sivelöv awarded the 1. prize to the Dutch/Danish duo, that have enjoyed a year-long collaboration. Christian Westergaard was also awarded a 2nd prize together with german baritone Johannes Held. The musical partnership of Francine Vis and Christian Westergaard is characterized by a vivid common musical understanding, a large span in style and language within the art song repertoire as well as imaginative and sensitive programming. The jury emphazised the high instrumental level of both performers as well as the common courage and will towards diverse expression and colour. The duo offers several interesting programs: A carefuly planned French programme with connected poets and composers, a parisienne programme with special attention to non-french composers relationship with Paris and a programme of nordic cycles).

Christian Westergaard ranks among the leading Danish song accompanists and has collaborated with numerous Scandinavian and German singers. He has played in Wigmore Hall, Musikhalle Hamborg as well as in recital halls in many European countries. He is a recording artist at Dacapo Records and has been hailed for his playing and programming in the concert series “Liedkompagniet” in Copenhagen. Christian teaches at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and at The Danish National Academy of Music in Odense.
